Where
Hostel Katerina is situated above the quiet Papa Nero beach, and down the village of Mouresi, between Agios Ioannis and Damouchari, on the Pilion peninsula, at approximately half way between Athens and Thessaloniki in continental Greece.
For those who only visit Greek islands: the Pilion is the peninsula close to the island of Skiathos the central place.
From the hostel, you have a beautiful view on the Aegean sea and on Papa Nero beach.
Social life in Hostel Katerina is concentrated on the central terrace. Most of the time you can find Katerina or her parents here. They live in the ground floor of the building on this picture; it isn't really the ground floor, a lower part of the house is accessible via the stairs on the left.Three guest rooms are situated on the first floor of that same building.
On the right side of the first and the second picture you can see the beginning of the path leading to the asphalt road. That path is fairly steep, partly in the form of stairs, partly on rocks, and unfortunately not suitable for handicapped persons. At the other side of the central terrace you can see a glimpse of the second building of Hostel Katerina, which houses most of the guest rooms.
The stairs lead to the two apartments and one other room. Under the stairs you see the beginning of a corridor giving access to five other rooms. If you go up the stairs you reach the entrance to the apartments. The entrance is at ground level, however on the other side of the building the balconies of the apartments are on the second floor.
If you walk through the corridor you will find an open air shower on your way to the beach (however most guests use it on their way back from the sea to their rooms). The shower has warm and cold water (although it cannot be guaranteed that the cold water is really cold when the average afternoon temperature in July and August is around 30°C).
From the shower a path leads down to the Papa Nero beach. It took your webmaster and his 4 years old daughter a few minutes to go down to the beach, and a few minutes more to climb back to Hostel Katerina.
The path ends at the southern end of the beach; and is clearly indicated with this blue sign.Once again it should be pointed out that unfortunately this kind of path is not suitable for handicapped persons.

Ο Δημοτικός Οργανισμός Κοινωνικών Θεμάτων Υγείας & Εκπαίδευσης-Κατάρτισης-Επιμόρφωσης (Δ.Ο.Κ.Θ.Υ.Ε.Κ.Ε.Μ.) του Δήμου Μουρεσίου στα πλαίσια του προγράμματος «Οργάνωση Επισκέψεων Παιδιών και Νέων Αποδήμων στην Ελλάδα για το 2010», θα υλοποιήσει και εφέτος το πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας, σε συνεργασία με την κατασκήνωση της Χ.Α.Ν.Θ. στον Αγ. Ιωάννη-Πηλίου.
Το πρόγραμμα συνδιοργανώνουν και συγχρηματοδοτούν: το Υπουργείο Εσωτερικών, Δημόσιας Διοίκησης & Αποκέντρωσης και το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών - Γενική Γραμματεία Απόδημου Ελληνισμού, όπως και για την υλοποίησή του συνεργάστηκαν η Κ.Ε.Δ.Κ.Ε, η Ε.Ν.Α.Ε. και η Ε.Ε.Τ.Α.Α., ως τεχνικός και επιστημονικός σύμβουλος της Τοπικής Αυτοδιοίκησης.
Ο Δήμος Μουρεσίου, υλοποιώντας για έκτη συνεχή χρονιά το πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας Απόδημου Ελληνισμού, έχει σαν στόχο τη σύσφιγξη των σχέσεων των Αποδήμων και Ομογενών με την πατρίδα Ελλάδα. μέσα από τη γνωριμία τους με τις παραδόσεις, τα ήθη και τα έθιμα, αλλά και τις σύγχρονες δομές και την καθημερινότητα της Ελληνικής κοινωνίας. Την Παρασκευή 27 Αυγούστου 15 παιδιά ηλικίας 8-12 ετών και 1 συνοδός από το Καζακστάν, όπως και 18 παιδιά ηλικίας 13-17 από το Μεξικό με 2 συνοδούς θα φτάσουν αεροπορικώς στην Ελλάδα, όπου θα φιλοξενηθούν στην κατασκήνωση της Χ.Α.Ν.Θ. στον Αγ. Ιωάννη-Πηλίου.
Δίπλα τους, για 15 ημέρες, θα σταθεί το έμπειρο προσωπικό και με διαμορφωμένο έτσι το πρόγραμμα, ώστε να θυμηθούν την ελληνική γλώσσα, να διδαχθούν τις παραδόσεις, να πραγματοποιήσουν εκδρομές στο εσωτερικό της χώρας και να χαρούν το κολύμπι στην Αιγαιοπελαγίτικη θάλασσα, ελπίζοντας η εικόνα που θα αποκομίσουν από τη χώρα μας, να είναι αυτή που πραγματικά της αρμόζει και θα συμβάλει ουσιαστικά στην διατήρηση και ενίσχυση της πολιτιστικής τους ταυτότητας και κληρονομιάς.
Ο Δ.Ο.Κ.Θ.Υ.Ε.Κ.Ε.Μ. και το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο με το προσωπικό του, αυτές τις 15 ημέρες φιλοξενίας θα είναι κοντά στα φιλοξενούμενα παιδιά και στους συνοδούς τους, φροντίζοντας η διαμονή τους να σφραγιστεί με ευχάριστες αναμνήσεις και εμπειρίες.
